Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.
Every day this month we'll present an Unsung Hero.
Nominations are accepted from around the state and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
Jamie Lucas, Tumwater
Jamie has been dedicating her time working with parents during the most difficult time in their lives.
Jamie is passionate and selfless. She has volunteered her time attending shelter-care hearings and dependency dockets, then she was then hired as a parent ally/peer counselor with Family Education and Support Services.
Jamie went through dependency with her children some years ago and has been using her experience to help other parents who are not sure what to do next.
Jamie has been leading Parent Forward Support Groups in Lewis County as well as a Dependency 101 workshop in Thurston and Lewis counties.
Jamie is well-known and valuable in Lewis and Thurston County. She is a team player, dedicated employee, she inspires others, gives them hope when everything looks bleak. These are some of the reasons I would like to nominate her for the Unsung Hero award.
