Using Ears to Find Eggs

Visually impaired children and their families are welcome to fill their Easter baskets with “beeping” Easter eggs during a special Easter egg hunt at the Tukwila Community Center on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The unique eggs, provided by the CenturyLink Pioneers’ Washington Chapter, are engineered with electronic circuit boards, batteries and telephone speakers to emit distinctive beeping sounds. As a result, visually impaired children can use their hearing to find the eggs and share in the joy and sense of accomplishment of a successful Easter egg hunt.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with social time and opening remarks. The egg hunt for partially sighted children begins at 11 a.m. and the hunt for sighted children begins at 11:10 a.m. The “beeping” egg hunt will begin at 11:20 a.m. After the children find the eggs, they turn them in for plastic eggs with candy in them so that the beeping eggs can be saved and reused.
