The Washington Toxics Coalition’s first “League of Everyday Superheroes” meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave. in Seattle). This free, kid-friendly community gathering was created as an opportunity to brainstorm ideas and gain support for a 2011 plan of action to fight for better regulation of toxic chemicals.
Toxic chemicals can be found in everyday products families use. For the upcoming legislative session, the Washington Toxics Coalition will be working to pass a new bill to get dangerous chemicals out of children’s products. The Department of Ecology has requested this legislation, and Gov. Christine Gregoire is behind it, but the chemical industry and toy manufacturers are sure to push back.
At the meeting, the Washington Toxics Coalition staff will share ideas and ask for thoughts from attendees. They will also be training on some of the finer points of lobbying and other ways to help, so that participants can be more effective activists.
