Young Musicians Sought for EMP’s “Sound Off!” Battle of the Bands

The Northwest’s premier age 21 and younger “battle of the bands” is now in its 11th year. Sound Off! supports the local music scene by giving young artists from different backgrounds an opportunity to showcase their work, connect with the larger artistic community and possibly perform live at Bumbershoot 2012.

Musicians and bands interested in entering Sound Off! should apply online by Monday, Nov. 7, at www.empmuseum.org/soundoff. For a list of rules and regulations, visit this link. A panel of music-industry professionals will review applicants and select 12 bands to perform live at EMP. Bands will be scored on song composition and arrangement, creativity and originality, and technical ability and musicianship.

Organized by EMP Museum, Sound Off! has paved the way for some of today’s freshest talent, including The Lonely Forest, Dyme Def, New Faces, The Lonely H, Sol, Schoolyard Heroes, and Brite Futures (formerly Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head). From Seattle and Portland to Vancouver BC, groups or solo musicians playing all genres of music are encouraged to submit original material for consideration in the contest.

Three semifinal rounds of Sound Off! concerts will take place on Feb. 11, 18 and 25, culminating in a finals show in EMP’s Sky Church on March 3, 2012. To learn more, visit www.empmuseum.org/soundoff.
