Green Your Holidays: A Host of Great Ideas from King County
I don't know about you, but with all the rushing, shopping and decorating at this time of year, I find it hard not to get bogged down by the materialism of it all. Therefore, I was ecstatic to come across this local Green Holidays Guide, just in the nick of time.
The EcoConsumer public education program folks at King County Solid Waste Division have come up with some wonderful ideas to green your holidays. Check out the guide for unique upcycled gifts, recycled material decorations and wrapping, and much more.
In Give Green, learn how to make some unique upcycled gifts, such as tile coasters, hand warmers and wine cork trivets. In Decorate Eco-tastically, get the how-to on using recycled materials to make garlands, ornaments or a menorah.
In Entertain This, figure out where to shop for local ingredients for your holiday feast, and also how to dress up your table in an eco-conscious way. Wrap It Up provides out-of-the-box ideas for wrapping gifts, such as using yearbook pages or maps.
In Recycle the Holidays, find out more information on recycling holiday lights, Christmas trees, wrapping paper and even cooking oil. Last but not least, Get In the Know offer links to local media stories about different ways to green your holidays.
Happy greening!
