Monday, October 23
Book Buddies Kids in kindergarten through 4th grade can practice their reading skills while making a new friend. Stop by the Children's Area of the library for a 10 to 20-minute reading session with a local teen who has literacy training. 4 to 5 p.m. Tukwila Library (Tukwila).
Tuesday, October 24
Beauty and the Beast Enjoy snacks and a screening of the 2017 live action film based on the Disney animated classic. Rated PG. 4 to 6:15 p.m. Renton Library (Renton).
Thursday, October 26
Tugboat Story Time Listen to stories aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. This is an indoor/outdoor activity; dress accordingly. The boat remains at the dock. Ages 2 to 5. Not intended for preschool groups. 11 a.m. to noon. Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union).
Children’s Author and Illustrator: Tatsuya Miyanishi Enjoy story time and a book signing with author Tatsuya Miyanishi. He'll read from his bestselling Tyrannosaurus book series. Also, kids will draw and help the author make an art piece together. This event will be in both English and Japanese. 4 to 5 p.m. Kinokuniya Bookstore (International District).
Friday, October 27
Pumpkin Carving Pumpkins of all sizes with safe carving tools and paints will be available to use to create a jack-o-lantern. Enjoy cookies, candies, and hot cider. When you’re done, enter your gourd into a jack-o-lantern contest to win prizes. 4:30 to 7 p.m. Northgate Community Center.
Creepy Carnival Enjoy carnival games, candy, prizes, a cakewalk, crafts, and more. Wear your costume and enter the spooky selfie challenge. Recommended for ages 6 to 12. 5 to 7 p.m. Garfield Community Center (Central District).
Saturday, October 28
Toddler Halloween Fest Kids ages 1 to 5 can enjoy a costume contest with prizes, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, toddler gym, pumpkin painting, and more. 10 a.m. to noon. Rainier Community Center (Columbia City).
Día de Muertos Festival Experience the Mexican traditions of this day honoring departed loved ones, including an altar, live performances, crafts, food, displays and more. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 29. Seattle Center (Lower Queen Anne).
Cascadia Cheese Festival Try cheeses from all over the Northwest, learn to make cheese from scratch (pre-register) and meet tiny goats. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Co-op (Capitol Hill).
Hilloween Capitol Hill’s family-friendly Halloween event includes a carnival (noon to 3 p.m.), costume parade (3 p.m.), a Haunted Laboratory at 1st Security Bank, and trick-or-treating along Broadway (3 to 6 pm). Noon to 6 p.m. Mitchell Activity Center at Seattle Central College (Capitol Hill).
Sunday, October 29
West Seattle Harvest Festival The streets in the Alaska Junction neighborhood will be closed to traffic while visitors enjoy a farmers market, crafts, a root beer garden ($), tons of kids games, a kids costume parade (11:30 a.m.), and a trick-or-treating (noon to 2 p.m.). 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. California Avenue S.W., between S.W. Alaska Street and S.W. Oregon Street (West Seattle).
Trick-or-treat on the Waterfront Kids are invited to trick-or-treat along the waterfront at 19 participating businesses. Enjoy photo opportunities with costumed characters, and a costume contest. Free parking available at select parking lots with validation, click here for details. Noon to 4 p.m. Alaskan Way from the ferry terminal to Anthony’s Restaurant (Downtown Seattle).
