More Halloween parties, Día de los Muertos festivals, and some other goodies, too.

It is the week of Halloween and Día de los Muertos, and there is so much to celebrate! Dress up with your youngsters and head to a daytime trick-or-treat or preschool Halloween party, and when November arrives, choose from one of the many Day of the Dead festivals happening around town. And if you’re Halloweened-out, there are other fun options, too.

 

Monday, October 28

LibraryLab: Gizmos and Gadgets: If you like solving puzzles, this event is for you. This week, drop in for a puzzle room challenge. Can you break into one of the locked boxes in 30 minutes or less? Come and find out! 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Delridge Library, Seattle. 

Monday Madness at Playdate SEA. Enjoy 8,000 square feet of indoor playground fun for the kids, while parents sip coffee at the attached cafe. 5 to 8 p.m. Play Date SEA, Mercer Street, Seattle. 

 

Tuesday, October 29

Native Family Play and Learn. Come to this play date to and meet other Native families in the area. Play in the woods and on the beach, and learn and practice Souther Puget Salish language. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Seahurst Park, Burien. 

 

Wednesday, October 30

Creepy Crawl for Toddlers. Wear your costume to this play event, where toddlers can experience a gym and spooky crafts, and then have some snacks. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Garfield Community Center, Seattle. 

Lil Boo Carnival. Dress your toddler in their Halloween costumes and join in at a special tot gym event. There will be bikes, toys, light snacks, and arts and crafts. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bitter Lake Community Center, Seattle. 

StreamFest: Salmon & Sustainability. Need a break from the Halloween festivities? Head to this fun and informative mini-fest, where the whole family can do art projects and listen to community members (including high school students) share presentations on – you guessed it – salmon and sustainability! 5 to 7 p.m. Kenmore City Hall, Seattle. 

 

Thursday, October 31

Halloween Sporty Spooktacular. Kids in Sports is hosting an active, daytime party at Alderwood Mall this Halloween. Wear a costume, and enjoy games, music, and prizes. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Alderwood Mall, Lynnwood. 

Hallo-weeeee. Join your friends for a special not-too-spooky Halloween Story Time, followed by a costume parade through the library. Best for ages 1.5 through 8. Costumes encouraged.  10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Kent Library, South Seattle. 

Daytime Trick or Treat. Wear your costume and stroll along Railroad and Falls Avenues in Historic Snoqualmie. Look for the orange balloons to collect treats at participating businesses. Noon to 4 p.m. Downtown Snoqualmie. 

Spooky Stories at the Library. Listen to spooky stories, sing silly songs, and decorate your own trick-or-treat bag. Best for children 8 and younger. 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Southwest Branch Library, Seattle. 

 

Friday, November 1 

Storytelling + Art at the Frye. In partnership with Seattle Children’s Theater, the Frye invites little ones to enjoy a play and some art making on the first Friday of the month. Register early, as spots fill up quickly. 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Frye Art Museum, First Hill. 

First Friday at the Museum. BAM's Free First Friday program offers free admission to the Museum the first Friday of each month. The Museum has extended hours, and offers special lectures, tours, presentations, and programming throughout the day. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bellevue Arts Museum. 

Día de los Muertos. Celebrate this Mexican tradition which honors departed loved ones. Make sugar skulls and participate in craft-making and games. 4 to 5:30 p.m. Lake City Community Center, Seattle. 

Día de los Muertos & Family Movie Night. Come celebrate and learn about a Mexican tradition, Día De Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead. Watch a performance by the Groupo Folklorico Mexican Dancers and get your face painted with traditional sugar skull designs. Then watch a festive film. Chips and salsa will be provided for a snack during the movie. 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Miller Community Center, Seattle. 

Día de los Muertos Community Night at SAM. Visit a tapete (sand painting) inspired by Oaxaca’s beautiful traditions for celebrating Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Enjoy music, dancing, and get creative with hands-on art activities. 7 to 9 p.m. Seattle Art Museum. 

 

Saturday, November 2 

Green Seattle Day. Have a hand in restoring Seattle's forests during Green Seattle Day. Join the fun at 17 parks across the city, and be one of hundreds of volunteers planting thousands of plants. All community members are welcome, and no experience is necessary. All day, various locations throughout Seattle. 

Columbia City Harvest Market. Today, the Columbia City Farmers’ Market returns so shoppers can stock up on fall produce and hang out with their community. This is only a one-day comeback, so don’t miss it. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 37th Ave S & S Edmunds St, just off Rainier Ave S., Columbia City. 

Día de Muertos Festival. Another option to celebrate this amazing holiday. Experience the Mexican traditions of this day honoring departed loved ones, including an altar, live performances, crafts, food, displays and more. Today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seattle Center Armory. 

Kirkland Urban Fall Fest. Enjoy some fall family fun with Eastsiders! Glitter tattoos, face painting, balloon art, live music and Día de los Muertos arts and crafts will be on site, along with an evening, outdoor showing of Disney’s Coco. Bring low chairs and no outside food. 2 to 8 p.m. Kirkland Urban, Kirkland. 

Day of the Dead Festival on Phinney. Bring offerings for the departed to the Phinney Center before or during this event, where the deceased will be celebrated by family and friends. There will also be a community procession and dedication to an altar, as well as life music, food and drink, arts and crafts, and more. 3 to 7 p.m. Phinney Center, Seattle.  

 

Sunday, November 3

Día de los Muertos at TAM. Community celebration of Day of the Dead.  Enjoy art-making, face painting, paper flower making, performances, food, and exhibitions of a tapete (sand painting) and community altars. 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tacoma Art Museum. 

Juanita Bay Wildlife Tour. Embark on this free tour of the park while park rangers interpret the wildlife and stop to observe the songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, amphibians, turtles, beavers, and other small mammals. Best for ages 6 and up. 1 to 2 p.m. Juanita Bay Park, Kirkland. 

Let’s Plant A Tree! Learn why tree leaves change color and why some trees don’t. Try some experiments on tree leaves, go for a short walk through the forest at Lewis Creek Park and plant a willow tree. 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Lewis Creek Visitor Center, Bellevue. 

ArtVenture: Our Bodies of Water. Join artist Hernan Paganini in an immersive and creative exploration of life under water and all the universes hidden within it. The Henry’s Education Studio will be transformed into an underwater imaginarium where participants will meet the creatures and plants that share our environment through creative play and drawing. 1 to 3 p.m. Henry Art Museum (University of Washington), Seattle.
