Monday, August 13

Crafting with Seattle ReCreative Today, make puppets with recycled materials. 10 a.m. to noon. Westlake Park, Downtown Seattle.

Ice Cream Story Time Kids ages 2 to 8 are invited to enjoy stories followed by a chance to make ice cream and eat it (of course!). Please bring oven mitts, gloves or a small towel. 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. today and Aug. 15. Capitol Hill Branch Library, Capitol Hill.

Arthropods Up Close From bumblebee basics to the hidden lives of Madagascar hissing cockroaches, learn about the amazing world of arthropods from Woodland Park Zoo, and then meet one in person. 5 to 6 p.m. Green Lake Branch Library, Green Lake.

The Zoo in South Lake Union Meet some of Woodland Park Zoo’s ambassador animals during the Where the Wild Things Live series. Special presentations at 11:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.  11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Van Vorst Plaza and Aug. 29 at Day 1 Playfield, South Lake Union.

La Ratonicita Presumida (The Vain Little Mouse) Join Tears of Joy Theatre for a bilingual puppet show based on a story from Venezuela. 11 a.m. to noon. Douglass-Truth Branch Library, Central District.

African Beats Workshop Teaching artists from Gansango African Music and Dance Company will lead a hands-on music workshop. Learn West African rhythms with drums, bells, shakers and clapping. 6 to 7 p.m. Northgate Branch Library, Northgate.

Caspar Babypants Concert and Album Release Celebrate the release of Caspar Babypants’ 15th album Keep it Real with a live, on-air concert. 9:30 a.m. KEXP, Lower Queen Anne.

Paint A Kite Bring your imagination and paint a kite to be later included in Freeway Park’s annual kite installation (Sept. & Oct.).  Today and every Friday through August. 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Freeway Park, Downtown Seattle.

Zucchini 500 Kids can make and race zucchini cars using car bodies and parts supplied by the farmers market and farmers. Donations appreciated. 4 to 6 p.m. Phinney Farmers Market, Phinney Ridge.

Basketball, Street Art and Pizza Middle and high school aged kids can enjoy a game of pick-up basketball. Younger kids can practice their skills on the courts behind Neighborhood House High Point. Autism Early Open Families affected by autism spectrum disorder are invited to explore Pacific Science Center with a morning visit closed to the general public. Summer at SAM The last in this Seattle Art Museum hosted series featuring free yoga classes (9 to 11:30 a.m.), an open studio session to create art (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), park tour (1 p.m.), and free Zumba class (2 p.m.). 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Olympic Sculpture Park, Belltown.

Sunday, August 19

Sunday Public Sail Each Sunday, the Center for Wooden Boats offers free 45-minute rides on Lake Union. Set sail on one of the classic boats. Sign up for a slot in person, several trips throughout the day. Space is limited. Sign up begins at 10 a.m. Center for Wooden Boats, Lake Union. 

Bicycle Sundays The four-mile stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard between Mount Baker Beach and Seward Park is closed to motorized traffic several Sundays through September. Enjoy biking, jogging or strolling along the water. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lake Washington Boulevard South, Mount Baker.

BrasilFest Celebrate Brazilian culture with music, dance, workshops, drumming, martial arts and more. Noon to 7 p.m. Seattle Center Armory, Lower Queen Anne.

Pear-a-dise Celebrate the pear harvest in the 100-year-old orchard at Garden House. Enjoy yummy treats, play games, hear live music, and learn about gardening. 1 to 5 p.m. Beacon Arts, Beacon Hill.
