Monday, August 20

Story Time at the Park Enjoy story time, science and craft activities outdoors. Hit up the playground before or after. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Albert Davis Park, Olympic Hills.

Tuesday, August 21

Monarch See a live puppet show by Tears of Joy Theatre about the life and migration of the butterfly. 2 to 3 p.m. Delridge Community Center, West Seattle.

Seattle Children’s Play Garden A garden and playground that celebrates all needs and abilities. Open play is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through Aug. 31.

 

Wednesday, August 22

Kids Graphic Novel Book Group Learn about different kinds of graphic novels and how to make your own. Bring a favorite graphic novel to share, and art supplies to create. 10:30 a.m. University Book Store, University District.

Caspar Babypants Get up and dance to the music of local kids’ favorite, Caspar Babypants. 11 to 11:50 a.m. Park at Bothell Landing Amphitheater, Bothell.

Afternoon Art Camp Clover Toys is hosting a weekly, drop-in art camp on Wednesday afternoons through August. Recommended for ages 4 and older. Each week is a different theme—today, create sock puppets. 3 to 5 p.m. Clover Toys, Ballard.

West African Stories and Music Experience a hands-on music and storytelling workshop with Kofi and Amma. 11 a.m. to noon. Southwest Branch Library, West Seattle.

Gansango Music and Dance Join teaching artists from Gansango Music and Dance company in an interactive performance of West African song and dance. 2 to 3 p.m. Greenwood Park, Greenwood.

Stretching Slime Each week, enjoy a hands-on activity hosted by KidsQuest Children’s Museum. Today, create stretchy slime! 10 a.m. to noon.
Community Kite Painting Paint a kite to be included in Freeway Parks’ Annual Art-Kite Installation. Materials provided. Noon to 2 p.m. Freeway Park, Downtown Seattle.

End of Summer Celebration Celebrate the end of the summer literacy program with the Seattle Public Library. Festivities include science, crafts, snacks, and a dance recital followed by a dance party. Albert Davis Park, Olympic Hills.

Cedar River Salmon Journey Watch the salmon migration through the Ballard Locks and learn from volunteer naturalists. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Ballard.

Dig In! Examine fossils, rocks, minerals and cast replicas of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals with educators from the Burke Museum. 10 a.m. to noon. Northgate Branch Library, Northgate.

Tibet Fest Festival features live music, dance, visual exploration, authentic foods, workshops, demonstrations and hands-on learning for kids and adults. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 25-26.

Yesler Terrace Park Celebration Celebrate the new park with an official dedication ceremony (noon), music, art, and food trucks. The Seattle Sounders’ RAVE Foundation will sponsor activities at the soccer field, and the Seattle University men’s basketball team will be hosting activities at the basketball court. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Yesler Terrace Park (835 Yesler Way), International District.

Hai, Japantown! Seattle’s historic Nihonmachi (Japantown) comes to life with festivities including a historic heritage walk, the dedication of Nihonmachi Alley art, Hawaiian music, Spam musubi making contest, nashi (Japanese pear) picking and more. 3 to 7 p.m. International District.

Sunday, August 26

Sunday Public Sail Each Sunday, the Center for Wooden Boats offers free 45-minute rides on Lake Union. Set sail on one of the classic boats. Sign up for a slot in person, several trips throughout the day. Space is limited. Sign up begins at 10 a.m. Center for Wooden Boats, Lake Union.
