Reading with Rover Kids have a chance to boost their reading skills and confidence by reading stories out loud to trained therapy dogs. 6 to 7 p.m. Renton Library (Renton).
Decorate Cupcakes Learn to make buttercream frosting, and create colors for decorating. Chef Laurie Pfalzer will teach how to use pastry bags and pastry tips. Students will leave with a decorated cupcake. Recommended for ages 10 and older. 4 to 5:45 p.m. Greenbridge Public Library (White Center).

Tugboat Story time Listen to stories about boats and the sea aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. 11 a.m. to noon. Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union).
Friday, October 13
Children’s Hour at Scarecrow Video An educational program ideal for preschoolers. Each session involves watching short videos, reading books, and participating in an activity related to a theme. Today’s theme is Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Scarecrow Video (Roosevelt).
Saturday, October 14
Free Family Weekend Walk Enjoy a 90-minute walk exploring Washington Park Arboretum. There will be tools and activities to engage families with children. 1 to 2:30 p.m. Washington Park Arboretum – Graham Visitors Center (Montlake).
Fall Festival Enjoy tractor rides, veggie car races, straw maze madness, games, and arts & crafts for children of all ages. Free admission, small fee for some activities. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Swansons Nursery (Fremont).
African Drumming, Dance, and Song Day Kouyate Arts will offer an interactive West African dance and music workshop. Bring your own instrument, or use one provided. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Magnuson Community Center.
TurkFest Experience Turkish culture with music and dance performances, hands-on activities, food, and a marketplace. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14-15.
