Families are invited to join fun and engaging walks led by Kubota Garden Artist in Residence and Feet First Neighborhood Walking Ambassador, Mary Magenta, which meander through the beautiful Rainier Beach park. The popular Kubota Garden Art Walks series runs now through Saturday, Jan. 26.
As a Walking Ambassador, Magenta promotes safer, more "walkable" communities by leading neighborhood walks and helping groups connect with their surroundings. Her knowledge of the garden's history and of Japanese garden culture combined with her skill and experience as an artist provides a unique perspective of this beautiful community park.
The Kubota Garden Art Walk schedule is as follows:
-
Sunday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
-
Saturday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m. – noon
-
Sunday, Dec. 2, 2 – 4 p.m.
-
Saturday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m. – noon
-
Sunday, Jan. 6, noon – 2 p.m.
-
Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. – noon
Magenta, who moved here earlier this year, says, "Being a Feet First Neighborhood Walking Ambassador in my favorite park allows me to meet and interact with fabulous folks from all over – and to share my deep appreciation for the sanctuary that is Kubota Garden."
Walkers should meet at the main entrance to Kubota Garden (9817 55th Ave. S) near the intersection of Renton Avenue South and 55th Avenue South. Individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to participate, and the events are free.
