Seattle Children’s and Kohl’s Cares have partnered up to offer several free bike and multisport helmet fitting and giveaway events this year for children ages 1 to 18. In addition, there will be a free ski and snowboard helmet fitting and giveaway in November.
Bike accidents are the second leading cause of serious injury in school-age children. More specifically, head injury is the leading cause of bicycle-related death and disability. A properly fitted bike helmet can reduce these risks by 85 percent.
At these events, parents and kids are taught how to properly fit their helmets. Here are the helmet fitting and giveaway events scheduled for 2013 and 2014:
Bike and Multi-Sport Helmet Fitting and Giveaway
Free bike helmets available for children at least 1 year old to age 18. Free multi-sport helmets available for children at least 5 years old to age 18. One helmet per child. Wearers must be present and be fitted to receive a helmet. Quantities are limited. First come, first served. No appointments needed.
Date: Saturday, Sept. 14
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Kohl’s, 17601 N.E. Union Hill Road, Redmond
Bike Helmet Fitting and Giveaway
Free bike helmets available for children at least 1 year old to age 18. One helmet per child. Wearers must be present and be fitted to receive a helmet. Quantities are limited. First come, first served. No appointments needed.

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: War Memorial Building, Memorial Center Gym, 601 N. Meridian Ave., Puyallup
Ski Helmet Fitting and Giveaway
Free ski helmets available for children at least 4 years old to age 18. One helmet per child. Wearers must be present and be fitted to receive a helmet. Quantities are limited. First come, first served. No appointments needed.

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
