Pretend you’re living in the 19th century at Family Fun Night coming up Friday (July 15) Fort Nisqually Living History Museum.
Families will complete in classic competitions like a plate and cup race, sack race, and three-legged race. There will be 19th-century music and treats made in the museum kitchen. Ice cream and lemonade also will be served.
And check this out: The highlight of the evening is the firing of saltwater taffy from the candy cannon. After that it’s a race to collect as much candy as you can grab.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner. The activities run from 6 to 9 p.m.
Tickets: Family $40, adult $11, senior/military $10, youth 4-17 $9, ages 3 and under free.
And for something different:
The museum also is bringing back Homespun Happy Hour, a popular 21+ event that features food, drinks, live music and 19th century crafts.
The next two are Thursday, July 21, and Thursday, Aug. 18.
Located in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park, Fort Nisqually Living History Museum is a restoration of the Hudson’s Bay Company outpost on Puget Sound. Visitors experience daily life during the 1850s with the help of costumed interpreters. Seven restored and reconstructed 1850s buildings are open to the public, including two National Historic Landmarks. There is also a Visitor Center with Museum Store.
