Double-knot the boots the previous week and take a practice excursion on Free Entrance Days in the National Parks, an annual event on Veterans Day. Smell crisp fall air, hear the crunch of gravel and leaves beneath your feet, see slugs, birds, deer and breathtaking vistas. Mt. Rainier National Park and Olympic National Park will swing open their gates gratis on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
