February 3 2016
Honoree: Teresa Garcia, Federal Way
Nominator: Emiliano Sanchez
The reason I am nominating Mrs. Garcia, is because she is an example for all parents in our school,
community and in the state of Washington. Since joining the Panther Lake Elementary community 2
years ago, I have witnessed a mother looking for answers regarding her children's education to now
leading our community's families with discovering and implementing the 5 protective factors. She is
leading the charge to prepare undocumented families for the state financial aid application process with
One America. Just in the last 2 years, her network, empathy, developmental needs of her children and
resiliency has given her high school senior son the opportunity to receive a full ride scholarship to PLU.
Mrs. Garcia has had many obstacles many of us never have to face despite all of the challenges
parenting present, however all of her qualities is why I am nominating Teresa Garcia as this year's
