Erika's Picks March 12 – 13: a parade, dinosaurs, leprechauns & blue herons!

Don't let our moody weather stop you - the weekend presents all kinds of possibilities for great family fun - Dino Day for dinosaur fans, a St. Paddy's Day downtown parade & a leprechaun hunt!

Dino DaySat March 12, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Burke Museum. Triceratops, T-Rex and Crocs, Oh My! Come check out the thousands of fossils in the Burke collection, then jump in a dig pit and try to uncover one yourself. You can even meet real paleontologists and ask them questions about their work. $10, $8 seniors, $7.50 students and youth, free 4 and younger. Dino Day at Burke. 

St. Patrick's Day ParadeSat, March 12, 12:30 p.m. FREE. Everyone is a little bit Irish this time of year, so come celebrate your green and watch (or join) the parade from Jefferson on 4th to Westlake Center. St. Patrick's Day Parade.

 
Great Blue HeronsSat, March 12, 10-12. Discovery Park. FREE. Explore the park, learn about these majestic birds and find the nearby rookery. Great for 8 and older with an adult. Herons at Discovery Park
 
 
Leprechaun Hunt, Sat/Sun, March 12 & 1310 a.m. – 5 p.m. Kruckeberg Botanic Garden. FREE. The Leprechauns have invaded the garden again! Come explore the park, rain or shine, and see if you can spot signs of Spring and these mischief makers. Leprechaun Hunt Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Kids can also participate in a Leprechaun Trap Building Workshop on Saturday.  Cost of workshop is $20 for non-members and free for members. The Funny Woman Who Lost Her Dumpling, Sat, March 12, 2 & 4 p.m. Bellevue Youth Theatre. Thistle Theatre brings this fun tale about a runaway rice dumpling to stage using Bunraku Puppetry. $10. thistletheatre.org
 
King-Snohomish County Regional Spelling Bee, Sun, March 13, 1-3 p.m. Town Hall Seattle. FREE. Over 70 middle school students compete for the chance to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Come see who can out spell them all. Spelling Bee at Town Hall.
