Monday, August 28

Ice Cream Story Time Celebrate the end of summer with librarians by making ice cream and eating your creation. For children ages 2 to 8. You may want to bring a small towel, gloves or oven mitt to use when shaking your bag of ice. 11:30 a.m. to noon. Capitol Hill Library (Capitol Hill).

Juggling Club Beginner to pro, all skills are welcome in this weekly club. Bring your own items to juggle or borrow/purchase. Recommended for ages 5 and older. 7 to 8 p.m. Top Ten Toys (Greenwood).

 

Tuesday, August 29

University Book Store Story time Kids can enjoy dramatic readings of stories new and old along with hands-on activities catered to the audience.  11 a.m. to noon. University Bookstore (University District).

Bellevue Summer Outdoor Movies Enjoy the last movie of this series, The Sandlot at dusk and a pre-show concert by The Not-Its at 7:30 p.m. Bellevue Downtown Park (Bellevue).

Kids Graphic Novel Book Group Every Wednesday through Sep. 6, join the Kids Graphic Novel Book Group. Learn about different kinds of graphic novels and how to make your own! Learn about creating characters, framing art, story arcs, and more. Bring a favorite graphic novel to share, a drawing or writing pad, a pen or pencil, and your creativity. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. University Book Store (University District).

 

Thursday, August 31

Children’s Hour at Scarecrow Video A weekly, educational program ideal for preschoolers. Each session will include auditory, visual, and tactile styles of learning: watching short videos, reading books, and participating in an activity related to a theme. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Scarecrow Video (Roosevelt).

Summer at SAM  The last in the series, this event features original work performed by Pacific Northwest Ballet. Also, enjoy live music, food vendors, and hands-on art activities for kids. Pre-registration recommended. 5 to 8 p.m. Olympic Sculpture Park (Belltown).

Cartoon Happy Hour Bring the family and watch cartoons on the big screen every Thursday 5-7 p.m. and enjoy special food and drink offers. Central Cinema (Central District).

 

Friday, September 1

Park in the Heart Free art lesson in the park for children taught by artist Blanca Santander. Learn new techniques in art and create fun things to take home using recycled materials and paint. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ballard Commons Park (Ballard).

Kids Day at Juanita Friday Market Shop for farm fresh produce and goods as well as live music. Kids can enjoy puppet shows and hands-on crafting activities. 3 to 7 p.m. Juanita Beach Park (Kirkland).

Free Bellevue Arts Museum The Museum offers free admission the first Friday of each month. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Movies in the Park Enjoy pre-show games, activities, food trucks, and a movie at dusk. Tonight’s movie is Moana. Cascade Playground (South Lake Union).

 

Saturday, September 2

Concerts at Ballard Locks Enjoy free outdoor concerts various dates through September 16 celebrating the centennial of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. Today, enjoy ukulele music from the band, Strum. 2 p.m. Ballard Locks (Ballard).

Hi Neighbor Picnics Meet neighbors and local businesses at this community picnic. Enjoy food, lawn games, and entertainment on the first Saturday of every month (June 3 to October 7). 4 to 6:30 p.m. Cascade Playground (South Lake Union).

 

Sunday, September 3

Juanita Bay Park Ranger Walk A family-friendly nature walk led by an Eastside Audubon Ranger. Learn about songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, amphibians, turtles, beavers, and other small mammals make Juanita Bay Park their home. Held on the first Sunday of each month. Tours start in the parking lot at 1 p.m., rain or shine. Bring binoculars if you have them. Juanita Bay Park (Kirkland).

Bicycle Sundays The four-mile stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard between Mount Baker Beach and Seward Park is closed to motorized traffic several Sundays through September. Enjoy biking, jogging or strolling along the water.  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lake Washington Boulevard South (Mount Baker).
