Maple Viewing Festival Sat Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Seattle Japanese Garden: It’s Fall which means it’s time for a fun, family-friendly event featuring nature-inspired craft making, a maple tree scavenger hunt, live performances, and more. Tea ceremonies ($10) at 1 and 2 p.m. on October 7, 12 and 14. $6, $4 students, seniors and ages 6 to 17, free ages 5 and younger.

Arlington Viking Fest Sat Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Legion Park. FREE: Fill up at a Swedish pancake breakfast then join a conquering march down Olympic Avenue before enjoying a Viking camp with re-enactments, games, costume contest, vendors, demonstrations, kids’ activities and more.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day Sat Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Duthie Hill Park. FREE: BYO bike and helmet for a day of guided trail rides, a bike obstacle course, awesome skills clinics, a delicious barbecue lunch, a daring bike-jump show, cool prizes and more.

Scarecrow Festival Sat Oct 7 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Magnuson Community Garden. FREE: Enjoy some Fall fun with live music, a scavenger hunt in the Community Garden Orchard, garden games, kids' activities, carnival rides, and scarecrow making! BYO clothes and pillowcase for the head. Straw and frame materials will be available at the event ($20).

The Pixie & the Grocer by Thistle Theatre Sat Oct 7 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Magnuson Park Theatre Bldng #47: Thistle Theater brings a tale of greed versus beauty to life in this fable by Hans Christian Andersen with the use of bunraku puppetry. Come discover what the pixie learns about comfort and happiness. $10.

Children’s Self Defense Clinic Sun Oct 8 12-1:30 p.m. My Gym Bellevue: Kids 5 and older and their grown-ups can learn about self-defense and bullying prevention in this useful clinic. $10-$15. Pre-register.
