Roller skating, Swedish pancakes, winter hikes and more this weekend!

 

Family Skate Night Fri Jan 5, 5:45-7:45 p.m. Alki Community Center

Reverse skate, couples skate, crack the whip and more. Channel the 70’s and bring the family to enjoy some groovy roller skating (ages 2 and older). BYO skates or rent them there $3.

 

Northwest Coast Carving Demonstration Sat Jan , 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Burke Museum

Sven Haakanson, the Burke's own curator of North American anthropology and other carvers will produce new work inspired by carving practices of indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast this Saturday. View the ethnology workroom, interact with carvers, and learn more about how they connect with the carvings in the Burke's ethnology collection. Event included with admission. $10, $8 seniors, $7.50 students/ages 5 to 18, free ages 4 and younger.

 

Shi Shi Mai Blessing Sat Jan 6, 1-1:45 p.m. Wing Luke Museum FREE

Seen at temple and shrine festivals at New Year's, the shi shi mai lion dance brings good luck and fortune. Join members of the neighborhood Choeizan Enkyoji Nichiren Buddhist Temple as they bless the museum. The blessing is free to the public but museum admission is required to view the galleries.

 

Swedish Pancakes and Dancing Sun Jan 7, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Swedish Club

Join the Swedish Club the first Sunday of every month as they serve up authentic Swedish pancakes for members and friends in the community! Be sure to stay for traditional music and folk dancing, an incredible Seattle view and, of course, real Swedish coffee. $9, $5 ages 5 to 12, free ages 4 and younger. 

 

Winter Adventure Hike Sun Jan, 7 1:30-3:30 p.m. Cedar River Watershed Education Center. FREE

Lace up your walking shoes and dress for the weather, then join a naturalist for a 2.5-mile hike, exploring the shores of Rattlesnake and Christmas Lakes. See if you can spy signs of winter wildlife. Great for kids ages 7 and older. No strollers or dogs and please pre-register.

 

Family Story Time & Play Time Sat Jan 6, 10:15-10:45 a.m. Northgate Branch of SPL. FREE

Our popular story time is back at the Northgate Branch of the Seattle Public Library! Join us for fun stories, rhymes, and songs with our fabulous children's librarian. Then stay afterward for a social playtime with other families. All ages welcome!
