I recently visited The Tomb Raider Experience in Seattle with two teens. It is located on Post Ave., a couple of blocks from Pier 57 on the Waterfront. We love to do escape rooms, and this one really stood out.

The Tomb Raider experience, explained
The 2,000-sqftt, six-room experience is an immersive trip into the world of the Tomb Raider. Although you don’t need to be familiar with the Tomb Raider universe to play, there are plenty of nods to the video game for fans. You won’t encounter Lara Croft, though her recorded voice will chime in occasionally to offer a clue or warn you of danger. Still, groups of up to 10 players are led by a live actor, “Alex,” who makes the experience feel like a guided tour through Lara Croft’s adrenaline-fueled world.

How the game works
Alex set up the story and quest and offered hints when we needed help to solve the puzzles. The beginning and end rooms are the vehicles for getting to and escaping from your adventure. Both rooms feel almost like amusement park rides in which the whole room shakes, with sound effects and screens offering views of the outside world from the “windows” as you travel. The puzzles get progressively more complex as you go deeper into the temple within a Chilean volcano, but none took too long to solve. However, I will admit that we accepted a hint or two from Alex. The experience lasted about 90 minutes and every part of it was engaging and fun.

Parting gift
After you finish and escape, you can get photos taken before a green screen, which is then added into a downloadable and shareable mini comic with music and voice actors detailing the guests’ adventure from Lara’s point of view. These are emailed to you after the game. They also have Tomb Raider-themed merch for purchase and offer free lockers in the lobby to stow your bags.
This is an excellent activity for families, birthday parties, or just groups of friends. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for your adventure.
Having a party? Make it Tomb Raider-themed
There is a table in the lobby where guests can bring cupcakes or cake for a quick snack before their game. For a fee, they can rent out the entire table or space by the hour. Catered food is welcome. Add shirts, pins and posters to your event for a more branded feel. To book a group email: contact@tombraiderseattle.com
After you find your way out of the Tomb Raider Experience, there is plenty to do in the area. A short walk takes you to the waterfront and Miners Landing, where you will find many dining options, the Seattle Great Wheel, Wings Over Washington, and more.
