It's a new week and a gorgeous morning, with plenty of chances to get in the yard or swing by the playground. It's also time to start planning pea patches and backyard gardens. Check the Farmer's Almanac for a 2015 chart of best planting dates in Seattle.
Also, celebrate Engineers Week after school today at Northeast Library in Wedgwood. The event doesn't start until 4:30, which gives you just enough time after school to scarf down a doughnut with your kids at neighboring Top Pot. Back to the Robot Challenge: Kids 8 and up can learn about robotics as a career and use "high functioning robots" at the session, which is a collaboration between the Seattle Public Library and Pacific Science Center. Call the branch to preregister before you go.
There's no need to register for this afternoon's Detective Cookie's Urban Youth Chess Club at the library's Rainier Beach branch. In its eighth year, kids age 7 and up are invited to check, mate with members of all ages and skill levels at the free event.
