Seattle Parks and Recreation will meeting the community at the Columbia Farmer’s Market this week to introduce families in the area to its planned redesign of Dearborn Park’s children’s play area.

The project design team will be at the market on Wednesday, September 21 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss the project and answer questions about the design and the upcoming construction schedule. The Columbia Farmers Market is located at 37th Ave. S & S Edmunds St., just off Rainier Ave. S.

As part of the $557,000 play area redesign project, the parks department will install new play equipment while improving access to the play area. The departments estimate that construction will begin in spring 2023.

The play area has been designed with a forest theme. It will include ‘Nature Play’ play equipment, swings, picnic tables and more. In a release, the department said the design is based on feedback from two surveys and from comments shared at a community meeting about the project.
