Seattle's wading pools, popular summer diversions for the younger set, have been closed nearly one-fourth of scheduled days because of this summer's cool, rainy weather.
But there's one bright spot: The money saved by not opening on chillier than normal days now means extended hours for the pools during what remains of this summer.
Some pools were closed 38 percent of the scheduled openings — as many as 15 days — because of the weather.
The budget savings from those unexpected closures now means instead of closing on Aug. 21, some pools will remain open until Aug. 28.
