A weekend of incredible music full of concerts, dances, workshops, music jams, and more. Wintergrass Pintgrass and Youth academy sessions are offered for kids ages 4 to 14, plus a Wintergrass Orchestra is available for middle school students. There is even a Youth Academy teacher training for kids 14 and up. $38 to $78 per day, $15 to $20 ages 12 to 17, discounts for students and military with ID and seniors, free ages 11 and younger. Family and weekend passes available.
Pacific Northwest Regional Yo-Yo Championship Sat Feb 25 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. FREE Seattle Center Armory
Time to Rock the Baby and Walk the Dog. Or, at least, do those things with a spinning disc on a string. Come watch amazing tricks as some of the best local yo-yo players compete at the Seattle Center. BYO yo-yo and pick up a few new skills.
Storms, Stories & Scribbles at Brightwater Sat Feb 25 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. FREE
Come join IslandWood and King County and learn some new storytelling activities this Saturday. We’ll begin the day by hearing a story about water from our resident story-teller, then head outside to explore the Brightwater aquatic ecosystems. After some inspiration gathering, we’ll head inside to write comics, haikus, or short stories and learn some new storytelling games. Great for kids 6 to 12 years old. BYO rainy-day gear – activity happens rain or shine.
Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival Sat Feb 25 1-5 p.m. North Ballroom at UW HUB
An amazing day of puzzles and problems and challenges and math! It’s a noncompetitive celebration of great ideas led by mathematicians, teachers, engineers, programmers, graduate students and more. Great for kids grades 4-10. $15 suggested donation.
Children’s Songs Concert by Philharmonia NW Sun Feb 26 2:30 p.m. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
Philharmonia Northwest presents “Children’s Songs,” a concert all ages will love. Join host Lisa Bergman for Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf, followed by Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite. The works will be brought to life on stage by the creative choreography of Dance Fremont. Be sure to come early for a special instrumental petting zoo for kids before the concert. $20, $15 students and seniors, free kids with a paying adult.
Asian Art Museum Final Weekend Open House Sat Feb 25 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. FREE Asian Art Musuem
The Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park is preparing for its upcoming renovation, so this will be their final weekend open house, great for all ages. Stop by for a fun day of art activities, curator- and docent-led talks, tea tastings and more, as you celebrate the arts and culture of Asia.
