Pancakes, Popsicle sticks, puppet shows and more!

 

Pancake Breakfast and Short Film Smorgasbord Sat Feb 4 9:30 a.m. Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption.

The words 'all-you-can-eat' and 'pancake' should go together more often! This annual event put on by the Children’s Film Festival of Seattle is the place to be this Saturday, for international animated films and round, fluffy, syrup delivery devices. Pre-register. This one sells out! Breakfast 9:30 a.m., film 10:30 or 11 a.m. $15, $55 family of four, space limited, pre-register. 

Popsicle Stick Bridge Contest and Engineering Fair Sat Feb 4 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Museum of Flight

Join the throngs and watch local teams of high school students build bridges from wooden Popsicle sticks that are judged, then tested to failure with a hydraulic press. Then stick around to learn about opportunities in engineering from representatives of national engineering societies, university engineering departments and student clubs. Event included with admission. $23, $19 seniors, $14 ages 5 to 17, free ages 4 and younger. Discount for online ticket purchase.

Sensory-Friendly Concert: Two Cats Sat/Sun Feb 4/5 10 a.m. Soundbridge at Benaroya Hall

It’s a morning of group songs plus a duet for clarinet and flute with Seattle Symphony musicians and Board-Certified Music Therapist Michael Thomas. Learn what happens when we take turns playing music together. $35/family. 

Frost Fest Sat Feb 4 12:30 p.m. Cornish Playhouse

Join Youth Opera Choruses and the cast of Cinderella en España for a fun afternoon of music and activities. This story of Cinderella is set in the beautiful city of Barcelona and is a modern, bilingual take on the timeless rags-to-riches tale. Come at 12:30 pm for free, drop-in family activities in the lobby before the performance. $5, free ages 17 and younger.

Anansi the Spider Sat/Sun Feb 4 & 5, 1 & 3 p.m.NW Puppet Center

Based on four traditional folk tales from Africa and the Caribbean, these stories are all about Anansi, the trickster spider who occasionally gets tricked himself. Come learn the universal lessons of wit and cleverness alongside Anansi the Spider. The show runs weekends through Feb. 12. $11, $9 seniors and ages 16 and younger.

Unplug and Play Fremont Branch. Sat Feb 4 2-5 p.m. FREE

I love this activity. It’s an afternoon of board games, coloring pages and snacks. All ages are welcome to turn off the cell phones and iPads and Nintendo DSs and engage in good old fashioned conversation. You can byob your favorite board game or enjoy the library’s selection including Netrunners, Chess, Scrabble, Clue, Chutes and Ladders, UNO and more.
