​Wallingford Walks: City Nature Challenge

Why not take part in the City Nature Challenge this Saturday with your family? Simply upload the iNaturalist app and then use it to photograph local plants and animals in Wallingford! Woodland Park Zoo staff will lead a mini-safari through the neighborhood to help get you started.

 

Guided Bird Walks

Various parks. FREE 
Join naturalists for guided bird walks throughout the city this weekend. Groups can be found at Discovery Park, Magnuson Park, Cal Anderson Park, Jack Block Park, and Union Bay Natural Area in Montlake. Look online for the full schedule, dress for the weather, bring water and pre-register.

 

World Rhythm Festival
Fri/Sat/Sun, Apr 27/28/29, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Seattle Center. FREE 
Gotta love some toe-tappin’ drum beats. Head to the Seattle Center this weekend for the fabulous World Rhythm Festival and enjoy more than 80 world music performances, drum and dance workshops, marketplace, and a drum circle. Noon to 5 p.m. April 27 is Family Day. www.swps.org

 

Sheep Shearing

Kelsey Creek Farm Park. FREE
Sheep shearing in the city! Come see how it’s done along with spinning demonstrations, children’s crafts and activities, tractor and wagon rides, pony rides, food and more. There are nominal fees for activities (cash only, no ATM on site). Parking is limited but shuttles are available from Wilburton Park & Ride and Bannerwood Sports Park. No pets in the barnyard area.

 

Family Treasure Cruise
Sat/Sun Apr 28/29, 1-2:30 p.m.
Lake Union Park 
Ahoy matey! Get out the parrot and head to Lake Union Park for an interactive pirate experience while cruising Lake Union. Kids and parents will search for treasure, play games, fire water cannons, and learn proper pirate speak. $29, $25 ages 18 months to 14 years and seniors, $10 ages 18 months and younger. Pre-register.

 

Top Pot Doughnut Dash
Sun Apr 29, 8:30 a.m.
Green Lake Community Center
This is the best kind of race. Run a little bit, get a doughnut! Join the crowd to raise money for Childhaven this Sunday and take part in a 5K run/walk and 1K kids’ dash (ages 12 and younger) around Green Lake. Registration before, 5K at 8:30, Kids' Dash at 9:30 and a performance by Seattle’s own Caspar Babypants at 10 a.m. $35 to $45, $15 kids' dash.
