Worst Day of the Year Run

It’s a pretty safe bet that January 5th will contain not-so-great weather. So, why not get outside in it? Don a fun costume and take part in this one-of-a-kind fun run. 9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. 5K, 10:15 a.m. 10K. $35 to $49, $10 ages 12 and younger. Space is limited, pre-registration encouraged.

 

Shi Shi Mai Blessing
Sat., Jan. 5, 1 to 1:45 p.m.
Wing Luke Museum, Seattle
FREE

Head to the International District to watch a traditional Japanese shi shi mai (lion dance) blessing to drive away evil spirits and bring good luck. Blessing viewing is free; admission required for museum exhibits and tour.

 

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music
Sat. to Tue., Jan 5-8,
5th Ave Theatre, Seattle

It’s better than bows on white dresses and brown paper packages tied up with string! Get creative with a costume for the costume contest, then come sing along with this favorite classic film (we know you don’t need them, but subtitles are included) $35.

Here’s a great opportunity to introduce your kids to the theater. Come see young actors with the Hi-Liners present a Caribbean-flavored adaptation of the classic Hans Christen Andersen fairytale The Little Mermaid at the Burien Annex. No babes in arms. $12.

 

Family Friendly Ranger Walk
Sun., Jan. 6, 2 to 3 p.m.
Mercer Slough Nature Park,Bellevue
 FREE

Lace up those walking shoes and join a ranger on a one-hour guided hike through the Mercer Slough Nature Park. You’ll explore the mosaic of habitats while learning more about the birds and animals that call the Mercer Slough home. Pre-register.

 

Winter Discover Walks
Sun., Jan. 6, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Cedar River Watershed, North Bend
FREE 

Dress for the weather and join a Cedar River Watershed naturalist for a one-mile exploratory nature walk to discover the hidden surprises of the natural world. Enjoy activities along the way, then take a closer look at nature’s treasures using microscopes. Register online here.
