Holiday Express Train and Poinsettia Display

Volunteer Park Conservatory, Capitol Hill Seattle

It’s the Holiday Express Train and Poinsettia Display’s opening weekend at the Volunteer Park Conservatory’s Seasonal House. Come watch the train's winding journey through the vibrant poinsettias and around the winter vintage display. Open for viewing during regular Conservatory hours through Jan. 1. Regular Conservatory admission pricing applies.

 

Julefest
Saturday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Nordic Museum, Seattle

Enjoy a cozy Scandinavian day at Julefest this Saturday. Taste Nordic treats, shop for gifts made by local artisans, listen to Nordic music, see a lovely Norwegian sleigh recently added to the collection, you're your very own Christmas crafts and meet Santa. Free for museum members, $7 general admission, free ages 13 and younger.

 

Shabbat Unplugged: Board Games
Saturday, Nov. 17, 10:30 a.m.-noon
Stroum Jewish Community Center, Mercer Island

Put down the cellphones and tablets and make eye contact with your favorite people at the Stroum Jewish Community Center this Saturday. SJCC will have lots of board games, plus cornhole and pop-a-shot basketball! Come for an hour or stay all day! $5.

 

Let’s Plant a Tree!
Saturday, Nov. 17, 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Lewis Creek Visitor Center, Bellevue

Kids 5-10 and their adults can learn why some tree leaves change color and why some trees don’t. Head to Lewis Creek Park for a fun talk and walk. Try some experiments on tree leaves, explore the forest at Lewis Creek Park and plant a willow tree! Please wear waterproof shoes. RSVP required by 4 p.m. Friday at 425-452-4195.

 

Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off
Sunday, Nov. 18, 8 a.m.
Green Lake Park, Seattle

Don’t you wish all races were like this? Run like crazy, and then replenish lost calories with delicious comfort food. Lace up your running shoes and choose your race (10K, 5K and free kids' dash for ages 12 and younger), then stick around for a mashed potato eating competition. 8 a.m. registration, 9:10 a.m. Kids' Dash, 9:30 a.m. 10K and 5K. $35 to $50, $10 kids dash.

 

Artventure: Library Labyrinths
Sunday, Nov. 18, 1-3 p.m.
Henry Art Gallery, UW. FREE

The mind is a curious thing. How do we remember people and event? What stories do we forget or transform over time? Check out Edgar Arceneaux: Library of Black Lies exhibit at the Henry Art Gallery then experiment with book-making and create personal maps of your memories, stories, and histories.
