Erika's Weekend Picks July 15-16

A Milk Carton Derby, Free Skateboarding Lesson and a Dragon Fest are just some of the festivities that await Seattle families this weekend.

 

Seafair Milk Carton Derby, Sat July 16, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. SW shore of Green Lake near Aqua Theater. FREE. Over 100 (sort-of) seaworthy vessels will be launched on Saturday. The big question….will the boats float? Join the fun and explore the food booths, fair and family activities at the Derby. Seafair Milk Carton Derby

 

Free Skateboarding Lesson, Sat July 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Seattle Center Skate Park or Ballard Commons Skatepark. FREE. BYO board or borrow one there. Skate Like a Girl volunteers will be on hand at two locations this Saturday to help kids ages 12 and younger learn the basics of skateboarding. Some helmets and pads will be available to borrow too. Space is limited and classes fill on a first come, first served basis. Free Skateboarding Lesson.

Seafair Pow Wow Days, Fri July 15, 4-10 p.m., Sat July 16 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., Sun July 17 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center

Enjoy dancing, games, food and community at this celebration of our diverse local Native populations. Grand entry at 6 and 7 pm July 15, 11 am, noon and 7 pm July 16, and noon July 17. No pets. FREE July 15, $5 ages 12 and older July 16-17. Seafair Indian Pow Wow

 

 

 

 

Dragon Fest, Sat July 16 12 -8 p.m., Sun July 17 12-6 p.m. Hing Hay Park. FREE

Head to Hing Hay Park for a weekend filled with exuberant lion and dragon dances, amazing martial arts and taiko drumming demonstrations, drill teams, fun arts and crafts, fabulous food and more. Dragon Fest.

 

Raggedy Ann & Andy, Sat/Sun July 16/17, 5 p.m. Volunteer Park. FREE

Theater Schmeater brings Raggedy Ann and Andy to life in a funny afternoon play, perfect for ages 3 to 93. Bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy a lovely summer evening in the park. Raggedy Ann & Andy

 

Backyard Bard: Twelfth Night, Sat July 16 7 p.m. Wallingford Playfield. FREE

One of Bill’s most popular comedies is brought to the stage by GreenStage this weekend. Join twins, Viola & Sebastian, separated by a shipwreck, as they find themselves (and each other) caught up in a crazy love quadrangle. Can they unravel the mixed up mess to everyone’s satisfaction? Bring a picnic, low-backed chairs or a blanket and find out. Donations welcomed. Backyard Bard: Twelfth Night.
