How will you spend your special day? If it involves getting out and having fun with the ones you love or just enjoying some “me” time, we’ve got plenty of ideas for making this Mother’s Day special. Some events require pre-registration, so don’t delay!
Bonus: start the day right with Top Brunch Options for Mother's Day.
Just for Moms
Enjoy some time to yourself at these mom-only events. On May 4, head to the University Book Store in Mill Creek for a moms night out coloring party featuring adult coloring books and beverages. Listen to Your Mother Seattle at Town Hall Seattle May 7 features local writers and bloggers sharing their heartwarming and hilarious stories of motherhood. Walk around charming downtown Kirkland May 7-8 and see artists at work (without worrying about little hands + breakables) during the Kirkland Artist Studio Tour. And lastly, have a good laugh the night of May 8 with the comedians of Unexpected Productions (near the gum wall!) at their Mother’s Day Improv Show.
Active Moms
Moms who love to run or walk have a couple races in their honor: the Mother’s Day Half Marathon and 5K in Kirkland, and the Mother’s Day 5K in Olympia. Both offer free kids’ dashes, too. The Snohomish Women’s Half Marathon and 10K also takes place on Mother’s Day, and features a run just for girls.
If you’d rather be out on the water, Tacoma Nature Center has planned a Mother’s Day paddle, where you can kayak the Foss Waterway past museums, bridges and other downtown Tacoma sights. On May 7, the Center for Wooden Boats at Camano Island’s Cama Beach offers a free Mother’s Day Sail aboard a variety of boats in their collection.
Gardener Moms
On May 7, head to the Edmonds farmers market where, for $10, kids can decorate a pot and put a plant in it for mom. At noon, they can even march in the children’s fairy flower parade. All weekend (May 6-8), families can shop the Mother’s Day Plant Sale at Kruckeberg Botanic Garden in Shoreline. You’ll find all kinds of cool plants, including native and rare varieties, and kids will have activities to keep them busy. On May 8, Bellevue Botanical Garden hosts a free Mother’s Day Social with music and refreshments.
Freebies
On Saturday, May 7, moms enjoy half-price admission at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo and Pt. Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma. On Mother’s Day, moms get free admission at Imagine Children's Museum in Everett, KiDiMu on Bainbridge Island, KidsQuest Children’s Museum in Bellevue, Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Northwest African American Museum in Seattle, Seattle Children's Museum, and a free train ride at the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie. And moms who partake in the Remlinger Farms Mother’s Day Buffet get free park admission that day.
Family Fun
These events have a little something for everyone. On Mother’s Day weekend, May 7-8, families can head to Pike Place Market for their Flower Festival. And while not a Mother’s Day event, per se, the Friends of Seattle Public Library Huge Book Sale May 7-8 at Seattle Center appeals to book-loving families.
