Families of Color hold post-election check-in

FOCS offers safe space for BIPOC parents to talk and foster 'resilience'

The November election of Donald Trump to be the next President of the United States will have a far-reaching impact, especially on families of color. The president-elect is known his many racist and sexist statements. He has promised to enact anti-immigration policies deport millions of people once he enters office, potentially splitting families apart. He has promised to keep LQBTQI parents from marriage. He wants to shut down the US Department of Education.

In a nutshell, during his 2016-202o presidency, Trump’s policies caused a long list of harm to people of color in America and most pundits on both sides of the political aisle expect he will do so again.

The nonprofit BIPOC family support and advocacy group Families of Color Seattle (FOCS) invites parents of color to discuss their concerns about a second Trump presidency tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m during an online Post-Election Community Care Check-in .

The live Zoom session is intended for parents and caregivers concerned for their BIPOC children and families during this transition period. FOCS leaders will facilitate discussions and share resources to “help foster community and resilience.”

FOCS leaders add that the check-in will “center the most marginalized and impacted among us. While the event will center on BIPOC parents, white parents of children of color are also welcome to attend as allies and members of the FOCS community.”

FOCS leaders say registration is required to ensure a safe and supportive space for all participants. Click here to register.
