Girls on the Rise – a free conference aimed at uplifting and empowering young women and especially girls of color – is coming to Seattle this Saturday. For girls with a goal in mind or those seeking guidance, this is a great opportunity to help them develop confidence and composure along the journey to adulthood.
The daylong conference will connect girls ages 13-21 with local, female leaders to learn about networking, college preparedness, social media, leadership, finances and more. It's designed to be an interactive event, where attendees can practice speaking up, working in groups, learning from each other, and building confidence.
Two leading Washington women will give keynote addresses: Seattle Police Department Field Training Coordinator Andrea Herrera and Seattle Fire Department Battalion Chief Debra Sutey. Every attendee will be paired with a mentor for 30 minutes of one-on-one coaching, and students can also meet with local employers.
The conference, presented by K.D. Hall Foundation, is free to attend this Saturday, June 8, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Northwest African American Museum. But there are only 100 spots, so register soon.
