Seattle Insight Meditation Society is now offering a monthly Teen Mindfulness Practice Group for high school kids ages 14 to 19. The group will be held the first Sunday of every month beginning March 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at their SoDo location, and will be a mix of mindfulness meditation instruction and exercises, light movement and group discussion.
Mindfulness practice helps teens (and everyone else!) to relax, connect with their thoughts and feelings, pause before habitually reacting to situations, and to offer kindness and acceptance to themselves and others.
Some of the skills teens will learn and practice are:
Relaxation body scan
Awareness of sensations and emotions
Suggested donation for the class is $5, plus teacher dana. (Dana is a term for generosity, or freely offered giving.)
There is no pre-registration — students are invited to drop in as they wish.
Note: A signed parent permission form is required for all participants under age 18.
