It’s Hunger Action Week

Did you know that one in four kids in Washington state is at risk for hunger? United Way has launched a campaign this week to help erase the question mark that accompanies mealtime for children and families in our neighborhoods.

Hunger Action Week, March 17 through 22, is an annual awareness week for food insecurity issues, which affect about 16 percent of Washington families.

Visit United Way’s website, where you can do the following things to help fight hunger:

  • Take the Hunger Quiz. “Like” United Way’s Facebook page, take a quiz to test your hunger knowledge (and learn some of the hard facts), and $5 will be donated to United Way and the cause. Be sure to share the quiz with your friends!
  • Take the Food Stamp Challenge. What is it like to live on food stamps? Challenge yourself (and your family) to live on $6.30 per day. Share your experience, tips for success, or questions about how others are doing on Facebook and Twitter using #hungerfreeKC. Here’s more information on how to take the challenge.
  • Participate in an online forum hosted by King County Library System, or attend an in-person forum during Hunger Action Week to hear from a panel of experts on hunger in your community. Share your thoughts on what we can do to fight hunger and learn more about what’s already being done. Learn more.
