Meet Dijana!
A technical project manager by day and a culinary enthusiast and life experience/perspective blogger by night. Her blended family is made up of 8 kids (ages ranging from 26 to 7) and two adults.
"Our house is actually really quiet with the exception of birthdays, holidays, weekends, special celebrations and heck, who am I kidding, there is always a fair amount of noise going on in our house," says Dijana.
She also has three beloved animal family members: Jojo the Bandit (chihuahua), Lily the rescue cat and Meaty the beta fish.
"I accidentally killed Meaty earlier this year so the new Meaty is actually named Meatier but that's an inside joke just between me and my older children." Read on for more on this mom and Seattle's Child magazine contributor who is as hilarious as she is talented.
Where might parents run into you and your family in Seattle?
I love visiting specialty grocery stores and local farmers markets. Nothing makes my Saturday great more than happening upon a new vegetable or fruit or product from a small local business. I also love taking the ferry to Vashon Island. My family and I always have a really good time when we're there.
If you had extra free time, how would you spend it?
I would travel to a local bee farm and take a tour of the farm and interview the owners. I have tons of questions about the collection and sale of honey and beeswax products in Washington state.
Best recent parenting moment?
I don't know about best, but funniest moment recently would be when I was letting my youngest son drill me on some math problems and once the numbers got really high I started making mistakes. I apologized for getting the answers wrong and told him that he must not think Mommy is very smart. He looked me dead in the eyes and said: "You're right, I don't but I love you." HAHAHA my kids keep me very humble.
Hardest recent parenting moment?
My eldest (birth) son is in his final year of high school and I am really struggling with all of the finality of his exit from childhood. (Dijana shared about that here.) I seem to be able to break down and cry at the drop of a hat lately. These kids have made me soft and I hate it.
What is something you're working on and could use help with?
I very much need to learn how to create a subscription based website where I can upload pictures and recipes and charge a nominal fee for access and the ability to print the recipes. I've got a nice stockpile of recipes, I just don't know how to set up the site.
