Food banks in the Seattle-area are serving more local residents now than they did at the height of the recession. Rainier Valley Food Bank has doubled the number of families it served five years ago, with an increase of more than 30 percent in 2014. To help fill the gap, the nonprofit just kicked off its “Food is Love” campaign with the goal of raising $14,000 between now and February 20. All funds donated to the food bank will be used to buy fresh produce, quality proteins, and other culturally-appropriate food to round out donations from community partners. Follow along with the campaign on Facebook and donate online.
Rainier Valley Food Bank delivers meals to more than 150 seniors per week, offers to-go bags to individuals without access to kitchens and distributes food on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
