Seattle-area community Thanksgiving meals, 2019

Numerous Puget Sound-area churches and other organizations open their doors to anyone to share a holiday meal and companionship.

Some families seek out community-based Thanksgiving dinners because they need a safe place for their family to gather for a meal, because they’re looking to enjoy the holiday with others in the community, because this year the cost of preparing the meal is a difficult stretch or all of the above.

See below for a list of events taking place on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 28.

And here's an early one: Eastridge Church will provide 1,500 free Thanksgiving turkeys and bags of groceries to families in need on Saturday (Nov. 23) at its Issaquah and Seattle locations.

The giveaway starts at 9 a.m.; proof of need is not required. The church will also be giving away coats, gloves, Bibles and, in Issaquah, free haircuts. Locations: 4500 39th Avenue S.W., Seattle; 24205 Issaquah-Fall City Road, Issaquah.
