Menorah Making Contest | Nov. 2 to Dec. 11 | Entries due Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.; voting Dec. 3–11 | Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Mercer Way, Mercer Island | Cost not listed | Children older than 6 and adults can make a menorah from materials found at home and enter it in the J’s lobby display. Entries must measure no more than one foot high and one foot wide and include eight candle spaces plus a separate space for the shamash, or helper candle. Include a short explanation of your design and check the organizer’s page for entry instructions.
Hanukkah Tot Shabbat | Dec. 4 | 9:45 to 11 a.m. | Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Mercer Way, Mercer Island | Cost not listed | Young children and their families can celebrate at an extended Tot Shabbat with Hanukkah crafts, dreidels, menorahs and gelt. The Klezmatics: Hanukkah & 40th Anniversary Celebration | Dec. 5 | 7 to 9 p.m.; doors open at 6 p.m. | Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Mercer Way, Mercer Island | $18–$36 | The Klezmatics perform songs from “Woody Guthrie’s Happy Joyous Hanukkah” and their new album, “We Were Made for These Times,” at this reserved-seat concert. Food and drinks will be available to purchase before the performance.
Hanukkah Family Show: Mark Nizer 4D Juggling + Laser Show | Dec. 6 | 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., including activities before the show | Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Mercer Way, Mercer Island | $18–$25 | Mark Nizer combines juggling, comedy, music and laser effects in a performance recommended for ages 5 and older. Before the show, families can visit craft tables and the Hanukkah Light Lab and eat latkes, included with admission. Wearing 3D glasses is optional; the performance includes flashing lights.
