February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.
Seattle’s Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children’s lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle’s Child will highlight each and every one.
Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 28
Meagan Caswell – Spokane Valley
I’d like to nominate Meagan Caswell for the Unsung Hero Award because she is an amazing mom, grandmother and foster mom.
She has opened her home to several children at all hours of the day and night for those children who need immediate placement and has had some for more than a year; she is also in the process of adopting her youngest foster child.
Meagan is active in the community, works for the local school district and has children in ECEAP. She fills her days with work, appointments, and meetings and still has time to snuggle her grand-babies, host birthday parties, and attend school functions. Meagan always has a smile, even on the tough days. She is blessed to have an amazing support system that gives her strength and builds her resilience.
I’m impressed by the individualized attention she gives each of the children in her care and has a high level of awareness of their social and emotional needs. She attends trainings and workshops to learn more about child development and behavior support and is open to feedback and suggestions.
Meagan is an inspiration and a model of how full of love and care a foster home can be. I’m inspired by her dedication to her family and her work with foster children; she truly makes a positive difference every day and I’m fortunate to call her a friend.
