Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.
Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
I'm nominating Stacie Gonzalez of Dupont for the Unsung Hero Award. In 2018, Stacie adopted two more of her foster kids and now has given them a forever home.
She has five kids who she takes care of while her husband serves in the military. Her older two are her biological kids and the three younger are all kids who she fostered to adopt. Ella was adopted in 2017 and Eva was adopted in March of 2018 and Josiah in May of 2018. She continues to instill in all of her children the values she holds dear: love others as yourself, forgive often and be kind and helpful to all those in need. She homeschools her two eldest children and continues to keep them involved in sports events in order to provide the growth and friendships they need outside their home.
Stacie is very resilient, she loves being happy and tries to find joy in the most difficult circumstance, her faith in God gives her strength and she gives all that she has to others. Stacie is very close to her family and has a great support system through friends from elder children's CoOp, sports and friendships she has made in her area.
She shows empathy and support to all of her children learning and that is why she is dedicated to her children and their education. She knows when she needs a break and has outlets of playing soccer and date nights with her older children in order to continue to build their one-on-one relationships as well as their family. I could say so much more about her, but these are the highlights of who Stacie is and why I think she deserves the Unsung Hero Award.
