Seattle's Child is proud to once again sponsor the Unsung Heroes being honored in February by the Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington.
Nominations are accepted from around the state and and include biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofit organizations; some mentor others in their communities. All honorees are true heroes: outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
Vanny Vath (Longview)
I am nominating Vanny because she is the epitome of an unsung hero.
Vanny has accomplished so much this last year. She was homeless, had four kids in CPS custody, and had gotten out of a domestic-violence situation.
In the last 10 months I have watched Vanny seek help in many areas of her life. She graduated treatment, got all four of her kids back from CPS, found housing and even gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She took parenting classes, boundaries classes and has utilized community support to put herself in a place to raise her kids in a safe and happy environment.
To see so much strength and determination in one individual is inspiring. She continues to make positive changes and be a role model to her kids. When standing at the foot of adversity she chose perseverance instead of surrender.
