The National Park Service is celebrating its 102nd birthday this weekend and, to let everyone help celebrate, it's bringing a "pop-up national park" to downtown Seattle.
The National Park Foundation (the agency's nonprofit partner) invites everyone to Seattle's Westlake Park from noon-4 p.m. Friday (August 24) and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 25).
The space will feature elements from nearby Mount Rainier, Olympic and North Cascades national parks and information on how close they are to downtown Seattle.
Guests also will be invited to tune out the sounds of the daily grind and tune in to the calming sounds of America’s national parks via a new pair of specially designed headphones and the cleverly named "Listen to a Rare Recording of the Beetles" (get it?)
