Watch fireworks and drink tea with mermaids at MukFest

Who says fireworks are just for July? End summer with a bang at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival this weekend.

Just when you thought that festivals were petering out…Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival is here with bang. This 3-day event, known as MuckFest, commemorates the historic lighthouse at the edge of the park and celebrates all the best parts of summer – the sea, the sand, friends and fireworks. Go there this weekend, Sept. 6-9, and give summer one last hurrah.

Fun for kids at Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival

From a salmon bake to a live music mash-up, Mukfest has a fun lineup of things to do. Here are few things kids will love:

Fireworks: Snohomish County’s biggest fireworks show begins at dusk on Saturday.

Children’s corner: Play yard games, go on a scavenger hunt, groove to the music, see the Reptile Man, pet farm animals and more. Children’s Corner is open all three festival days: 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Here’s the schedule of events.

Fishing derby: Kids can fish on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m., at the Mukilteo Ferry Dock. Bring your own fishing pole and bait.

Lighthouse tours: Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Ready, set, glow: Bring the kids to the MukFest Children’s Corner on Friday evening, 7 to 10 p.m., for a glow-in-the-dark dance party.  The first 30 minutes will be toddler-focused.

Mermaids and pirates tea party: Sea-faring friends invite you to tea at 1 p.m. on Sunday. You’ll need a ticket for this event ($40); they are limited, so buy them early. A ticket gets your child a tea party with mermaids and pirates, snacks, a pony ride, crafts and a photo booth.

MukFest Mashup: New this year, this mini-music festival features Seattle-area rock bands. It's on Saturday, from 2:30 t0 10:30 p.m., at Rosehill Community Center. Tickets are $15 at the door.
