Erika’s Weekend Picks, March 13 and 14

Enjoy a PopUp Storywalk ... hunt for gold nuggets ...

Get ready for weekend fun!

PopUp Storywalk
March 13 and 14 (and beyond)
Get outside to enjoy the sunshine and stroll the latest PopUp Storywalk at Sunset Neighborhood Park in Renton. “Beaā€™s Bees” by local author Katherine Pryor is displayed throughout the park, and will be there until March 28. The story begins across from the library near the covered benches. The path is stroller-friendly. Please wear masks and socially distance along the path, especially while reading each page and playing in the park!

Pot of Gold Nugget Hunt
March 13 and 14
You donā€™t need the luck of the Irish to participate in this event. Kids ages 4 to 8 can join a hunt for gold nuggets at McAuliffe Park in Kirkland this weekend. If you find a nugget (you get to keep the nuggets you find), just turn it over to see if you won a prize. To collect your prize, simply take a picture of your nugget and send it to JVandiver@kirklandwa.gov (limited to one prize per person). Register at https://bit.ly/2NvucpH by March 13 in order to play and be sure to park on the Main side of the park, located on the east side of 106th Ave (look for the windmill).Ā

Burke Museum: Cruisinā€™ the Fossil Coastline
March 13 and 14 (and beyond)
Look at the world through the eyes of a walrus, an ammonite-obsessed scientist, and an artist with a fondness for cheeseburgers, ratfish and trilobites in this exhibition on West Coast fossils at the Burke Museum. Come help uncover diverse fossil bouquets, admire life-size sculptures and models, and check out the light and audio installation, where fossils come to life. Pre-registration required.

March of the Flowers Story Time (Virtual)
March 13 and 14
FREEĀ
Itā€™s story time with the Miller Library this weekend. Join this free event virtually and learn how flowers attract pollinators, how seeds form, and how flowers can lift the human spirit. Weā€™ll be reading from these three wonderful books:Ā  “The Night Flower” by Lara Hawthorne, “The Secret Sky Garden” by Linda Sarah and Fiona Lumbers, and “Flower Talk” by Sara Levine.

St. Patrickā€™s Day Dash
March 13 and 14
Celebrate the Irish in all of us at the 37th annual St. Patrickā€™s Day Dash in Seattle, taking place at Green Lake Park on both March 13 and March 14. Don your green and gather your crew and join for another fun Irish celebration! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, each day will have a limited capacity. Register early for the weekend fun and then raise a toast to St. Patrick! Tickets $30 to $125.
