A popular Puget Sound-area holiday tradition is back: Zoolights 2022.
The outdoor, walk-through light display opens Nov. 26 at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma. The details are things we’re accustomed to: smaller crowds, timed admission tickets, masks on everyone 5 and older ā and hand sanitizer everywhere.
Point Defiance becomes a colorful winter wonderland with more than 700,000 LED lights representing Northwest landmarks and zoo creatures. In addition, there are whimsical animal scenes; for instance, sledding penguins!
Indoor attractions ā aquariums, carousel and Plaza Cafe ā will be closed during Zoolights, but outdoor food and gift kiosks will be open. (Hot cocoa break, anyone?) Dress for the weather and be ready to walk. Also, crowd sizes will be limited, but it’s up to each family to keep safe with social distancing.
Advance online purchase of timed tickets will be required. [ Related: Read about one family’s experience at Zoolights in 2020. ]
