Seattle already has some of the best playgrounds around, and in 2026, several family favorites got exciting upgrades. Across the city, parks added safer surfacing, more accessible pathways, inclusive play equipment, giant slides, new swings, and imaginative climbing structures designed for a wider range of ages and abilities. Families can now explore an airplane-themed playground at Hubbard Homestead Park, a brand-new spray park at South Park Playground, updated neighborhood playfields, and more.

Hubbard Homestead Park

A new play area opened on March 2, 2026, in the Northeast part of Hubbard Homestead Park. The renovation features an aviation theme, honoring Mr. Hubbard, who served in World War II. The playground offers swings, slides, and spinners as well as a climbing structure shaped like an airplane. They’ve also added benches, safety surfacing, new landscaping, and a paved path.

View Ridge Playground

View Ridge Playground underwent an extensive renovation, opening in March 2026. They replaced the play equipment with new structures and seating to accommodate children ages 2-12 of all abilities. They also replaced the drinking fountain and added paved pathways between the restroom, entrance, and playground. The park also features a covered picnic shelter, picnic tables placed in the shade, and softball and basketball courts. In summer, enjoy the wading pool near the playground (wading pool schedule).

Ward Springs Park

Located at the base of Queen Anne at 4th Ave and Ward Street, this small playground has been recently renovated. New play equipment includes climbing structures, a saucer swing, and refurbished seats for the grown-ups to enjoy the impressive view of the Space Needle and downtown. The historic pump house, which was part of the area owned by Seattle Public Utilities and provided water to the Queen Ann neighborhood, is available to rent as an event space.

Bryant Neighborhood

Bryant Neighborhood Playground got new play equipment in February. It now offers two separate play structures, one aimed at 2-5 year olds and the other is appropriate for ages 5-12. There is also a new swing set. The park also has basketball hoops, two fenced tennis courts, large open spaces, and tables with bench seating. Paved paths connect the park to sidewalks and residential streets.

South Park Playground

The South Park Community Center Playground just got a brand new playground as part of a recent upgrade to the center. Kids ages 5-12 can climb rope ladders and slide down a tall tube slide, while ages 2-5 have their own smaller play structure. The area is surfaced in artificial turf, making it easier to navigate with strollers. A swing set includes bucket and saucer swings, and there are also big, geometric objects to hop on and climb, as well as a Merry-Go-Round. A new spray park will be open in the summer.
