Baron von Munchausen Takes Seattle

Submit your own family adventure movie, dress up to win Munchausen-inspired costume prizes, check out the Baron-esque photo booth and more at SIFF's Films4Families screenings Jan. 28 & 29 and Feb. 4 & 5.

The improbable, fantastical, über tall tales of Germany's most imfamous18th century adventurer make for great family viewing this weekend and next when The Adventures of Baron Munchausen hit the screen at SIFF Film Center as part of SIFF's year-round Films4Families program.

Invite your kids to decide for themselves whether or not Baron Munchausen's description of a trip to the moon in a balloon, a ride in the belly of a sea monster, a sultry dance with Venus and a fiery exploration of the inside of a volcano are indeed fact or fiction in this colorful, madcap movie with several movie-star cameos.

SIFF is inviting families to submit their own "Adventures of . . ." movie – no more than two minutes long – at least two days before screenings. SIFF's Parent Advisory Committee will choose the best family-made shorts to play prior to Baron screenings January 28 and 29 and February 4 and 5.

Submissions must be received by the Thursday prior to weekend screenings. They must be G-rated content – please, no nudity, no objectionable language. Films chosen for screening will be awarded four tickets to an upcoming Films4Families screening. Screenings occur every Saturday and Sunday at SIFF Film Center starting at noon. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Submit your short film via email to [email protected].

Prizes will be also awarded for the best Baron Munchausen-inspired costumes worn by kids and/or adults (as decided by audience vote.) A Baron Munchausen-themed photo booth will be set up for families to take photos and SIFF volunteers will also be on hand with cameras.

Be sure to pick up a SIFF Films4Families Baron Munchausen Coloring Page for your child. Kids ages 2 to 14 who return a coloring page at a subsequent film event will get a free bag of popcorn.

All seats are $4.
