Congratulations Unsung Hero: Roseanne Henzel

February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.

Seattle's Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children's lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle's Child will highlight each and every one.

Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 6: Roseanne Henzel – Yakima, WA:

Roseanne is raising her great granddaughter Ahryana. Not only does she make sure that Ahryana has the best possible care (doctor's appointments, dentist visits, help with homework etc.) she also cares for Ahryana's fellow classmates and teachers! On top of having a full time job, she is an active member on the PTA and serves on our school's Instructional Leadership Team. Through her work, she was able to get all the Kindergarten, First grade and Second Grade teachers free books for their students! In addition, she provided worksheets/activities to be used in connection with these books. She created these herself and made copies for everyone on her own time! She regularly volunteers in our classroom and is always asking for ways that she can help. Roseanne obviously has a heart for serving others and our school is a better place because of her!
