The City of Everett's Lions Park is the first park in the nation to feature a state-of-the-art wayfinding system for the visually impaired.
The system, which features a tactile map and web-based technology to guide people, was unveiled last week at Lions Park, located at 7530 Cascade Drive, a 3.3-acre urban-style park that features walking paths, a basketball court, playground, picnic area and large open area for play.
The system has two complementary components:

Large Braille, tactile maps at main park entrances that identify all prominent park landmarks and features.

Customized, mobility-friendly walking directions that can be downloaded on a smart phone or MP3 or accessed via a toll-free number (1-888-617-7386), which provide voice narrative. In addition, text instructions can be loaded onto a text reader used by visually impaired people.
City park staff members worked with InTouch Graphics during the past year to design and implement the "ClickAndGo" wayfinding system. ClickAndGo wayfinding maps are developed by mobility specialists that incorporate terminology and landmark cues to assist visually impaired park users.
