Families experiencing homelessness are invited to get goods and services — and have fun — at a free back-to-school event in Woodinville.

Babies of Homelessness is sponsoring its third annual Back2School event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, August 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 16500 124th Ave. N.E.

The organization promises a fun-filled day with activities and food. Kids and families can get free haircuts, dental checkups and family photographs — and kids will go home with a backpack filled with school essentials.

“New backpacks with school supplies can range from $65 to $100," Brittan Stockert, Executive Director, Babies of Homelessness, said in a newsl release about the event. "For those living under the federal poverty line, often there are no funds left over for books and school supplies. When these supplies are not available in the home, homework often goes undone."

She added that her organization has supplied almost 800 students in the past two years.

The nonprofit Babies of Homelessness has helped more than 2,000 families and delivered more than 94,000 diapers since its founding in 2016. It focuses on helping with the basic needs of families with young children ages 8 and under who are experiencing homelessness in King and Snohomish counties. It accepts referrals from other agencies and operates a helpline that allows its volunteers to deliver necessities directly to families, whether they live in their cars, tent cities or homeless shelters.

Here's how to get more information about the organization.
